Grounded in Clay:

The spirit of pueblo pottery

I am honored to serve as a guest curator for the recently unveiled “Grounded in Clay: The Spirit of Pueblo Pottery” exhibit that debuted on August 1, 2022 at the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture in O’ga Pogeh, Santa Fe, New Mexico. “Grounded in Clay” is a collaborative exhibit co-produced by the School for Advanced Research and New York’s Vilcek Foundation, hosted by the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture.

The launch of this unique traveling exhibit featuring over 100 historic and contemporary works in clay offers a visionary understanding of Pueblo pots as vessels of community-based knowledge and personal experience. The project gives authority and voice to the Pueblo Pottery Collective, a group of over 60 individual members of 21 tribal communities who selected and wrote about artistically or culturally distinctive pots from two significant Pueblo potter collections– the Indian Arts Research Center and the School for Advanced Research (SAR) in Santa Fe and the Vilcek Foundation of New York.
